As many of you know we have been working on multiple improvements across the whole metaverse. In the following article you can read about the biggest changes in the background and about our plans for the next updates.

This month, we are going to speak about the following topics:

  1. The current state of the game
  2. The upcoming update
  3. The changes to our payment & accounting models
  4. Our future plans for ChilloutVR

The current state of ChilloutVR

As everyone knows, ChilloutVR has started its closed alpha testing on February 14, 2020. That means that the alpha is not even a month old.

From the first network tests (that have been some months before and are not considered a real part of the alpha), we have added a lot of new features and components, released content creation, polished the game and more.

The current state of ChilloutVR is still an early alpha and we appreciate the loads of positive feedback we got until now. We also thank everyone that reported bugs, submitted suggestions and helped us finding issues to fix.

Compared to the first network tests, we have already come a long way. We currently support custom avatars and worlds and have ingame interaction available to players around the world.

As of now we have 400 user-created avatars and 80 user-created worlds on record and the numbers are growing.

The upcoming update ChilloutVR 2020r149

The upcoming update for ChilloutVR will add many of the core game features many of you have requested. Those features will surely need further evaluation and testing. We would greatly appreciate feedback to be able to improve what is not working well. A preview of the update (and after release naturally the full changelog) can be found here:

The changed mentioned in that post are not complete and there will be further changes. It is just a preview of what will be available for testing in the next update.

Changes to the payment model

As many of you already know, we are a company that offers a service and as such we have costs to carry as well. We were planning on using a concept to limit friends and content uploads to get players to pay a one-time fee to help us to keep up the development and our services.

This model is now changing.
With the following releases we remove all limits regarding friends lists.
Groups can only be created by people with an unlocked account.

Yes, this means that there is no longer a friends limit planned.

*: Please note that uploads may need further validation by a staff member for security reasons. Our trust system sometimes flags uploaded content that will then require further manual review before going public. This is a security relevant procedure and will not be lifted by the unlock.

The future plans for ChilloutVR

As we have just started the closed alpha testing a few weeks ago, we can say that we are still far away from where we want to be. The following text will give you a few hints on where our road is going and on what to expect from future updates.

Networking

We will further improve the networking of ChilloutVR to be able to deliver on better latency. We have also greatly improved the overall network stability and will further do so.

VRIK & Full-Body tracking

We have implemented a list of fixes to VRIK and implemented full body tracking. We want to further improve IK and FBT behaviour on behalf of community feedback.

Object Sync & Interactable Sync

We will soon make more actions networked to make creators able to deliver more interactive content. This includes networked interactables, buffered networked interactables & object syncs.

Stream players

We will soon implement youtube video sync components and a radio stream sync for icecast or shoutcast servers. This will allow users to create cinemas etc.

Newton

After all the work on the above has been finished we will continue to work on the Newton behaviour engine, a fully featured scripting and behaviour engine made exclusively for ChilloutVR. More information on what Newton will allow players to do will follow soon.
